Ransomware attacks have become increasingly prevalent in the first quarter of 2023, with hundreds of victims being claimed by various gangs. Our recent analysis reveals that Lockbit 3.0 tops the list, having claimed over 300 victims from January to March 2023, followed by CLOP Ransomware with 200 victims, and Black Cat with 90 victims.
One of the reasons for the surge in attacks is the exploitation of zero-day vulnerabilities by ransomware gangs, such as CLOP Ransomware's use of the GoAnywhere zero-day vulnerability. This highlights the importance of strengthening defenses against such attacks and ensuring that vulnerable systems are routinely updated. The public disclosure of vulnerabilities also increases the likelihood of further ransomware attacks in Q2 2023 and beyond.
