Nickelodeon Data Breach: Investigation Underway as Alleged Production Files Leaked Online

Nickelodeon, one of the world's leading children's entertainment TV channels, is the latest victim of a data breach.

Nickelodeon, one of the world's leading children's entertainment TV channels, is the latest victim of a data breach. Evidence of the alleged data leak began circulating on social media, showing a reportedly large collection of 500GB in documents and media files.

The files leaked by the threat actors do not include user or employee data, said the spokesperson, who added that none of the exposed files were obtained from the recent breach of the company's systems. We are aware of social media posts that allegedly contain production-related files that were made available without authorization and we are investigating. The allegedly leaked content appears to relate only to production files, not long-form content or employee or user data, and some of it appears to be decades old.

A Nickelodeon spokesperson said that the investigation is ongoing. However, the files do not appear to be the result of a recent breach of their systems, an investigation by BleepingComputer found. Moreover, the TV channel's spokesperson assured that the leaked data did not contain user or employee data and was limited to production resources and other intellectual property.

On the other hand, the hackers are actively sharing screenshots of the files they allegedly stole from the network, including leaks from its animation department. Some of the screenshots showed folders from the network's biggest shows, including Monster High, Danny Phantom, SpongeBob SquarePants, Avatar: The Last Airbender, The Smurfs, etc. As seen by Hackread.com, the leaked data includes information about unreleased TV shows and scripts as well.
